Bible-in-a-day Seminar on September 17, 2011
The Bible is the most published book in human history, a foundational document of western civilization, and the basis of Christianity, but it remains widely under-read and misunderstood. But what is the purpose of the Bible? Why has God given it to us? How do the Old and New Testaments fit together? Many important questions emerge today because we don’t explore the Bible as one story. To some, the Bible is nothing more than a random collage of unrelated stories. We see the bits but we don’t see the big picture. The people, customs, and narratives of the Old and New Testaments seem mysterious and distant.
Bible-in-a-day is a concise way of exploring the Bible. Throughout the seminar, we will look at the key people, events, dialogue and narrative that communicate God’s grand plan and purpose to people in every age. At Bibleāin-a-day, we hope you become enthralled by God’s one big overarching story that is the Bible.
Bible-in-a-day begins with a helpful introduction to the Bible:
-
what it is
-
how it came to be
-
how to read it
-
the major theme
The four major sessions of the day will look at the cumulative realization of God’s purpose from Creation in the book of Genesis to the new Creation in the book of Revelation.
The Bible-in-a-day will be our parish teaching day this year as an introduction to our new sermon series in the fall.
