Q: Are all the Sunday services the same?
No. The morning Sunday worship services are different from the Sunday evening worship service. You can read about what to expect in each service on this website. Back to top

Q: I’m not an Anglican, can I attend?
Absolutely. You can attend whatever your faith, or if you have none! When you come for the first time please be sure to let the greeters at the door know you are a newcomer, and fill out a blue card that you will find at the end of the pew. Back to top

Q: Is there a dress code?
No. The Bible isn’t specifically concerned about how we look on the outside or about the clothes we wear when we worship God. Some people prefer to dress more formally as a symbol of respect. But generally the guideline is to be sensible and wear clothes that will not distract others. Back to top

Q: Where does St. John’s stand in the current Anglican controversy?
St. John’s holds to the truth expressed in the Bible. This is currently labeled as “conservative”. You can find out more about this topic on our Worldwide Anglicans page. Back to top

Q: What kind of a church is St. John's?
St. John's is a memorial Anglican church located in central Vancouver, Canada. We are a diverse church, and many of our members come from a variety of ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds, but we are all united by our common interest in learning more about what God has done for us through his Son, Jesus Christ. We consider Scripture to be God's word revealed to us, and we uphold the orthodox principles of the Christian faith. Back to top

Q: How can I learn more about the Christian faith?
St. John's conducts 5-week courses, called Discovering Christ, designed to cover the essentials of the Christian Faith. "DC" participants meet each Wednesday evening during the course to share a meal and learn about what Christians believe and why. ‘D.C.ers’ are encouraged to ask the tough questions and explore the big picture in a safe and comfortable environment. DC is intended both for those interested in learning about Christianity for the first time, as well as for Christians who feel they need a refresher on the basics. Click here for more information, or e-mail Aaron Roberts at aaron@stjohnsshaughnessy.org or telephone 604.731.4966 ext 25. Back to top

Q: I want to get married at St. John's, what do I need to know?
We encourage you to enquire well in advance of your wedding date. We like to get to know couples a little, and we ask that they meet specific criteria if they intend to get married at St. John's. We charge a fee to cover the costs of providing a minister, organist, and church attendant (verger). We're sorry, but we do not rent the building out for wedding ceremonies. Q: Where can I park?
St. John's is located in a residential area, and there is ample parking on the streets surrounding the church. However, out of respect for our neighbours, we ask that those attending our services avoid parking in public alleyways or obstructing driveways. Please remember the City of Vancouver Street and Traffic By-law requires that we park:
• 1.5 metres from a driveway or lane
• 5 metres from a fire hydrant
• 6 metres from a stop sign
If you are able-bodied, please park a block or two from the church and leave the spaces near the church for those who are elderly, very young, or handicapped. Back to top
