Who we are:

St John's Shaughnessy Anglican Church, Vancouver is a community of Christians dedicated to the exposition and teaching of the Word of God, to the spreading of the good news of the Gospel at home and abroad, and to the application of God's purpose in our own lives and families.

"They were devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer ...breaking bread from house to house, sharing their food with glad and humble hearts, praising God and having the good will of all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number every day those who were being saved." Acts 2:42, 46, 47.

St. John’s is a large congregation. The objective of ‘Connections’ is to provide a starting point for parishioners to get to know each other and for newcomers to become integrated into the church.

Parishioners meet in groups in each other’s homes for a lunch time meal. As we get to know one another better, we strengthen our bonds to each other and increase our love and concern for one another and so help build up the community within our congregation.

There have been many significant connections made through this program, in terms of building friendships and in helping newcomers become involved in the life of the church. It is a wonderful way to get to know others in the congregation better, whether you are a newcomer or whether you have been at St. John’s for years!

Organized connections
In the spring and in the fall, parishioners can register for lunches happening on the last Sundays of February and March and again in October and November. About 6-8 people lunch together in each group. You can either register to host and provide food, or register as guests only. Once the registration is complete, participants will receive a list of the individuals for their Connections lunch with contact information and general instructions.

Spontaneous connections
Our vision is that most of the congregation will be involved in connecting in this way, and that people will continue to connect on their own, “breaking bread together from house to house”, and inviting each other and new members to a deeper, more Christian relationship.
