special announcement:
For Christ’s love compels us, because… He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again. 2 Corinthians 5: 14-15 (NIV)
The Anglican Network in Canada had a wonderful conference last November at which we began to “build on the Solid Rock”.
That conference marked a new beginning. Since then a number of biblically-faithful Canadian parishes have requested and received episcopal oversight in the Anglican Network in Canada under the jurisdiction of the Archbishop Gregory Venables and the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone.
We have watched with awe and gratitude as God has begun a mighty work among us.
Now, we want to gather again to delight in the compelling love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
On April 25-26, we will gather in the Vancouver area, in South Delta Baptist Church – where many of us have gathered for important ACiNW (now ANiC BC) and Essentials events in the past.
This will be a joyful celebration of His goodness, a time of solid Bible teaching and a new commissioning of clergy, parishes and members to the mission Christ entrusted to His Church. Our prayer is that God will be pleased to use us in the days and years ahead to help ignite spiritual revival in Canada and, where needed, in the Anglican world.
Archbishop Gregory Venables will celebrate and worship with us, as will a number of other leaders in the global Anglican Communion. Our time together will culminate Saturday afternoon in a special service of celebration, commissioning and communion.
Please plan to join us.
Yours faithfully,
The Right Reverend Donald F Harvey
Moderator, Anglican Network in Canada
A New Bible Reading Guide. Today in your bulletin, you will find a copy of the Bible Reading Guide for the next 9 weeks (March 16-May 17). This guide is an abbreviated version of the Book of Common Prayer Table of Lessons (pp xvi to xiv), which was written with the assumption that a person would pray and read two passages from the Bible morning and evening. We choose one of those four readings for this little Guide. If you don’t have a Prayer Book, Norah Johnston (604.224.8986) would be glad to provide you with one at cost. Besides the reading from either the Old or New Testaments, there is a reading from the Psalms. May God bless you as you read His word.
Prayer Service. On Monday, March 17, the Prayer Ministry of “Keeping Company with God” will continue with the second of a two part series on the gift of repentance. This is a time set aside during the season of Lent for reflective prayer and a deeper understanding of what it means to have a repentant heart before the Lord. Please join us for an hour of quiet music and prayer at 7:30 pm.
Easter Flowers. Anyone wishing to donate to the flowers at Easter and have a mesage in the bulletin please see Edith Winters in the Trendell Lounge after the 9 am, the 11 am and the 6:30 pm services.
St. John's Seniors Easter Communion and Lunch. St. John’s Seniors Easter communion and lunch will be held on Tuesday March 18. Communion will be in the chapel at 11 am with lunch to follow in the Trendell Lounge. Sarah Tippett and friends will provide musical entertainment. Come and bring a friend for this very special celebration. Please call the church office if you need a ride.
God & Film. The second evening of God & Film is this Friday night. Meet in the church hall to commemorate Good Friday with the movie, “The Passion of the Christ”. The evening starts at 7:30 pm and will include a public screening with refreshments, a brief commentary on the filmmaker’s themes, and opportunities for questions and discussion. Pick up blue invitations at the door to use to invite your friends.
Church Easter Decorating. Please join us for Easter decorating on Saturday, March 22, 9-11 am in the sanctuary. Coffee and snacks provided. Donations of greenery can be left outside the south chapel door.
Easter Family Service. Saturday, March 22 at 5 pm – How can God, who is holy, possibly dwell in the midst of his sinful people? Through drama, singing and readings from Exodus and the gospel, the Easter Family Service will celebrate God’s perfect Lamb of God who “bore the iniquity of us all”. Everyone is welcome.
Marriage and Parenting. Join us on Friday March 28th at 7 pm in the Trendell Lounge to hear Julie and Ken Moser speak on their wisdom gleaned from many years of ministering to teens. Please bring an appi or dessert to share. For more info please email Elizabeth at elizabethsiemens@telus.net
