Dear Friends,

Welcome to August at St. John’s! Our 10:00 am service will be briefer, lighter, and will include people of all ages. We hope our singing, praying, gathering will make the children feel embraced. Our theme through August is THE GREAT RACE and the text is, “Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us”. Of course the words that follow in the Scripture are, “looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Our evening service continues in Ephesians and tonight we look forward to hearing a wonderful young man preach his first sermon.

Would you like to know what Dr Terry Chang thought of his time in Jerusalem at the Global Anglican Future Conference? Would you like to know what are St. John’s three mission objectives, or what’s coming up in youth events? Would you like to see some of the children’s art from the last year, or download a sermon by Rev Jim Salladin, or find help with several books of the Bible? All you need to do is to go to our excellent website that has been wonderfully created by Stephen and Pauline Hale. This is a great resource for which we are very grateful.

Last week we announced the choice of our new pew Bible, the English Standard Version (ESV). We are passionate about God’s word: hearing it, reading it, learning it, digesting it inwardly, and seeking to obey it. It is a great Bible to study and to preach from. I am looking forward to the arrival of this new version in our pews in the Fall.

Warmly,
David Short
