Dear Friends, I thought I would compare the St. John's fall brochure with the brochure from the Kerrisdale Community Center. After the 26 pages, I was a bit lost and a bit overwhelmed, although the Wii in the afternoon intrigued me.Two differences between the brochures caught my eye. One was in content. Not the obvious content difference, but in that all the ministries have an underlying theme or question being asked or sought which is, 'Who is Jesus and why do we need to understand this?' The second difference was that, for ministry involvement there are no pre-requisites needed and no assumption that you are too advanced in knowledge or experience. I am always encouraged when I hear exclamations of wonder, particularly from David Short, when what was thought to be a familiar Bible story becomes something new and exciting. All this is to say that, if you are new to St. Johns or new to the idea of church beyond Sunday, I want to encourage you to explore, inquire, and/or get connected with one the ministries. It can take many forms, Bible study, praying together, teaching Sunday school, or sharing a meal with people you haven't met before. Please take a brochure and review our website and think about how to explore the question of who Jesus is and why do I need to understand this? warmly, Joanne Lawrie
