Thanks, Prayer and Update – Reflecting on God’s Goodness in 2008

As trustees of St. John’s we want to give thanks to God for His kindness and His mercy to us this last year, and we want to update you on our current situation.

God Provides

  • In February God gave us the unity and wisdom to accept the offer of alternative Episcopal Oversight from the Southern Cone through the Anglican Network in Canada (ANiC).
  • In September that unity grew as all the trustees of the ANiC parishes in the lower mainland sought clarity and resolution on parish property and trust issues.
  • In May, Rico Tice strengthened our efforts to share Jesus with our friends and families in Vancouver.
  • God has graciously initiated outreach through our Ekklesia group to the UBC campus.
  • We are seeing more clearly the beauty of our Lord Jesus Christ through Luke’s Gospel, who came to seek and to save the lost.
  • Our offertory giving in 2008 has exceeded 2007 even with a number of significant extra challenges:
  • Owing to the actions of the Diocese, in the Fall we were offered a new option for giving to the Anglican Network in Canada project for St. John’s.
We raised additional money for the legal defense fund – also in the Fall.
The worst (or best) snowfall in 44 years during our strongest giving period of late December.
By Dec 31 we still need $85K to meet year end expenses and we thank God for his continued mercy.
We want you to know that 2008 gifts can be received until Jan 2.

Trust God

  • In the midst of tremendous uncertainty and chaos in our world, the promises of God remain faithful.
  • Praise God for His mercy and that His Kingdom is growing in Vancouver.
  • Pray that God would continue to create in us an ambition for the Gospel in our families, in our church and in the lower mainland.
  • Pray that God would increase our unity and humility and that He would provide our financial needs.
  • Pray that God would give us the faith to trust Him for what He will do this year.

As Trustees of the Gospel, we are overwhelmed by God’s goodness and mercy, and count it a privilege to serve Him with you.
