Christianity Explored

The Christianity Explored course meets Thursday nights at 7:00 pm in the Church Hall for a wonderful home-cooked meal, short presentation and discussion. The course runs for 7 weeks and is designed for those who are curious about Christianity or are new to the Christian faith. Christianity Explored provides a warm, pressure-free environment to explore questions of faith and life. It’s informal, fun and you can choose to be silent or say whatever you want. No question is too hostile or basic and no knowledge of faith is expected!

If you have any questions or wish to register please contact Aaron by email or phone at the church office, 604.731.4966 ext 22.

The course is free, but a small donation is asked to help cover the cost of the awesome food. The next Christianity Explored course begins on February 18.

So check your plans for those dates. How do you get involved?  We will have a registration table next Sunday, after the 9:00 am service in the Trendell Lounge and after the 11:00 am in the Narthex. Birth. Thanksgiving to God for the safe arrival of daughter Eulalia Johnson, born on Feb. 8th and weighing 9 lbs. 7 oz. Congratulations to proud parents, Tim and Anna Johnson.

Condolences. Marjorie Stevenson, a long-time member of St. John’s, died on February 5 at the grand age of 100 years and 6 months. For the past several years, as her health declined, she longed to go to be with the Lord Jesus and didn’t know what was holding Him up; now she is with Him. There will be a memorial service here at St. John’s on March 2. Please keep her extended family in your prayers.

Condolences. Please keep Beth Allen, her mother, Margaret, her sisters Jean and Gwen, and all the extended family in your prayers. Her father, George Robbins, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 4 and a memorial service will be held for him at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, 8680 Hudson Street, on Saturday, February 20 at 2 pm.

  Dear Friends,

We warmly welcome you to St. John’s today.

This Valentine’s Day, the world is focussing its attention on Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games and we will be welcoming people from many nations to our city during the next couple of weeks. It is a time of hospitality and of celebrating good will in relationships between nations and peoples from around the world. It is a refreshing change from the fractured relationships between peoples that so often dominate the news.

Today at St. John’s, we have invited many of you to join us in our guest services at 9 am and 11 am. It is our joy to welcome you as we celebrate the fact that, when Jesus Christ was born, the angels announced peace and good will to all people in Him. That is because God heals fractured relationships with Him as Jesus forgives your sin and my sin in his death on a cross for us. Wonderfully, Jesus guarantees this gift because he rose from the dead. What a joy it is to have peace with God and know His tremendous love for us in this way.

My prayer is that on this Olympic Valentine’s Day you will see and know God’s tremendous love for you in Jesus Christ. Jesus’ own words communicate this for us perfectly today: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Thank you for coming today, it is our joy to welcome you.

Dan Gifford
