Ordination to the Diaconate

Bishop Don Harvey is coming to Vancouver to ordain two of our staff (Aaron Roberts and Keith Ganzer) to the diaconate on Sun, Apr 25 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church (corner of Burrard and Nelson Streets downtown). We are unable to have Episcopal acts in St. John’s church while we are involved in the court process and are very grateful that First Baptist has opened their doors for us. We hope that many of you will plan to attend to pray for and encourage Keith and Aaron in this important step in their lives.

Christianity Explored

a course for the curious, a place to ask questions
The Christianity Explored course meets every Thursday night at 7:00 pm in the Church Hall for a wonderful home cooked meal, short presentation and discussion. The course runs for 7 weeks and is designed for those who are curious about Christianity or are new to the Christian faith. Christianity Explored provides a warm, pressure-free environment to explore questions of faith and life. It’s informal, fun and you can choose to be silent or say whatever you want. No question is too hostile or basic and no knowledge of faith is expected!
If you have any questions or wish to register please email or phone Aaron at the church office on 604.731.4966 ext 22.
The course is free, but a small donation is asked to help cover the cost of the awesome food. The next Christianity Explored course begins in May.

Daily Bible Reading – Nourishment for our souls

Today in your bulletin, you will find a copy of the Bible Reading Guide for the next 9 weeks, Apr 11, to Jun 12, 2010.
This guide is an abbreviated version of the Book of Common Prayer Table of Lessons (pp xvi to xlv), which was written with the assumption that a person would pray and read two passages from the Bible morning and evening. We choose one of those four readings for this little Guide. If you don’t have a Prayer Book, Norah Johnston (604.224.8986) would be glad to provide you with one at cost. There are two readings – one from either the Old or New Testaments and the other from the book of Psalms.
May God bless you as you read His Word.

Arctic Fellowship Stamp Collecting

The Arctic Fellowship is still collecting used stamps. They can be left at the Church office. Thank you also to those who have given. If you have any questions, please contact Grace Turner via the church office.

Dear Friends,

Thank you for joing us at St. John’s this morning, as we continue to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ in this season of Easter.  One of the joyous events coming up in this season is the ordination of Keith Ganzer and Aaron Roberts to the Order of Deacons.  Keith and Aaron have been contemplating full-time ministry in the Anglican Network in Canada (ANiC) for several years and have gone through a discernment process for ministry at St. John’s. During this time it became clear that they are very good candidates for leading churches as clergy in ANiC.

Last November they were selected to attend the ANiC discernment weekend for ordination candidates where both Keith and Aaron were strongly affirmed as excellent candidates for ordained ministry.  The bishops of ANiC have enthusiastically endorsed the recommendation of the ANiC discernment committee.

Therefore Keith and Aaron will be ordained deacons in an ordination service that will take place at First Baptist Church, on the corner of Burrard and Nelson (969 Burrard), on April 25 at 3:00 pm.  Detailed information regarding transportation and parking will be available by next Sunday.  This service is being held at First Baptist because our legal standstill agreement does not currently allow for ordinations or confirmations to take place at St. John’s.  We rejoice with Aaron and Keith and hope you can attend this very happy occasion in the life of St. John’s.

As we continue our celebration of Jesus’ resurrection I want to draw your attention to a new sermon series in the Evening Service, 6:30 pm.  The title of the series is The Holy Spirit and the Christian Life.  This will be a wonderful series that I highly to recommend you:  The schedule is as follows:

Holy Spirit &...
April 11 - Communion with God
April 18 - New Life
April 25 - Holiness
May 2 - Assurance
May 9 - The Word of God
May 16 - Ministry
May 23 - Pentecost

May God bless you as you serve our risen Lord Jesus Christ.

Yours in Him,
Dan Gifford
