Ordination Service - TODAY

Apr 25, 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church,
969 Burrard Street

We hope many of you will attend the ordination to the diaconate of two of our pastoral staff members, Aaron Roberts and Keith Ganzer. We are unable to have Episcopal acts in St. John’s church while we are involved in the court process and are very grateful that First Baptist has opened their doors for us. We hope that many of you will plan to attend to encourage Keith and Aaron in this important step in their lives personally and in our life in the body of Christ.
Please Note: There is no parking available in the First Baptist parking lot. However, there is parking available at Nelson Square parking (southwest corner of Nelson and Howe, enter from Nelson Street). We have a limited number of parking passes that will give you free parking at Nelson Square and these will be available from the church office on a first come, first served basis from either Joanne McKinnon or Krista Friebel.

St. John’s Seniors’ Tea

The Seniors’ Tea will be held on Tue, Apr 27 at 1:30 pm in the Trendell Lounge. All seniors are cordially invited to come and bring friends to hear Carolyn Scott, a member of our church, speak about her annual visits over the past 15 years to Bangladesh doing volunteer work with the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed, and how it has changed her life.

Christianity Explored

a course for the curious, a place to ask questions
The Christianity Explored course meets every Thursday night at 7:00 pm in the Church Hall for a wonderful home cooked meal, short presentation and discussion. The course runs for 7 weeks and is designed for those who are curious about Christianity or are new to the Christian faith. Christianity Explored provides a warm, pressure-free environment to explore questions of faith and life. It’s informal, fun and you can choose to be silent or say whatever you want. No question is too hostile or basic and no knowledge of faith is expected!
If you have any questions or wish to register please email or phone Aaron at the church office on 604.731.4966 ext 22. The course is free, but a small donation is asked to help cover the cost of the awesome food. The next Christianity Explored course begins in May.

Legal Fund Update

Thank you to those who have made contributions and pledges. If you have made a pledge and not yet fulfilled it, please do so soon, if you can. In addition to amounts received and pledged, we expect to require $63,000 to complete funding of the Appeal. Some of the $63,000 will come from other ANiC Churches, but any further support (whether $1 or $1,000+ and marked for the ANiC Legal Defense Fund) is gratefully appreciated, as regular offerings are not used for this purpose.
Thank you.

Dear Friends,

Today at our 9 am and 11 am services we welcome David Jackman as our preacher. David is the founder of the Cornhill Training Course in England, which is designed to train evangelical preachers in exegesis, exposition and communication skills. He led a preaching conference this past week at St. John’s, in which a number of our staff, the Artizo students, and pastors from other churches in the Vancouver area took part. Those who attended were greatly encouraged and helped by David’s teaching on preaching on the wisdom literature in the Bible. We are blessed indeed to have David preach in our Acts series for us.

Today is also a joyous day for us as a parish family because Keith Ganzer and Aaron Roberts will be ordained as deacons at 3:00 pm today at First Baptist Church (969 Burrard Street). You are all invited to this service in which Bishop Don Harvey will be officiating and Reverend Darrell Johnson will be preaching. Please pray for Aaron and Keith as they commit themselves to full-time ministry in the Anglican church.

Finally, if you have noticed that many women are missing from our services today, you are right; they are attending St. John’s annual women’s retreat in the mountains north of Maple Ridge. This is a happy time where faith is strengthened through the faithful teaching of God’s word and relationships are deepened in their life together. It is exciting to see all that God is doing in women’s ministries at St. John’s, and we pray that the work of the Gospel at St. John’s flourishes through the blessings that come out of this weekend.

Warmly,

Dan Gifford
