Parish Prayer Meeting

Please join us Mon, May 3 at 7:30 pm in the Trendell Lounge, in praying for the ministries of St. John’s and the Anglican church. “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts 2:24

Baptism

Our next baptism service is scheduled for Sun, Jun 13. If you or your children are interested in baptism please contact Krista at the church office by email or phone at 604.731.4966 ext 19. The deadline for application is May 13.

Missions Lunch

There will be a Missions Lunch after the 11:00 am service on May 16 in Trendell Lounge. The Cambodia Team (Karol Boschung, Chris Pain, Jan Hobbis and Graham Meakins) will report on their recent trip to Cambodia with Ratanak to work on the “Sanctuary” building. This building is becoming the key centre for the transformation of Svay Pak, a community whose past is deeply linked with child exploitation.

Christianity Explored

a course for the curious, a place to ask questions
The Christianity Explored course meets every Thu night at 7:00 pm in the Church Hall for a wonderful home cooked meal, short presentation and discussion. The course runs for 7 weeks and is designed for those who are curious about Christianity or are new to the Christian faith. Christianity Explored provides a warm, pressure-free environment to explore questions of faith and life. It’s informal, fun and you can choose to be silent or say whatever you want. No question is too hostile or basic and no knowledge of faith is expected!
If you have any questions or wish to register contact Aaron by email or phone at 604.731.4966 ext 22. The course is free, but a small donation is asked to help cover the cost of the awesome food. The next Christianity Explored course begins later this month.

Legal Fund Update

Thank you to those who have made contributions and pledges. If you have made a pledge and not yet fulfilled it, please do so soon, if you can. In addition to amounts received and pledged, we expect to require $ 38,575 to complete funding of the Appeal. Make sure that you make any legal fund cheques payable to ANiC Legal Defense Fund, as regular offerings are not used for this purpose. Thank you.

Operation Baby Bottle

Next Sun, May 9 (Mother’s Day) Crisis Pregnancy Centre will be commencing its annual Operation Baby Bottle Fund Raising Campaign. We ask all who are interested in taking part in this exciting operation to pick up a baby bottle(s) from Janice Raaby in the Trendell Lounge during the coffee-time in between the services.

Dear Friends,

Today at our 9 am and 11 am services we welcome David Jackman as our preacher. David is the founder of the Cornhill Training Course in England, which is designed to train evangelical preachers in exegesis, exposition and communication skills. He led a preaching conference this past week at St. John’s, in which a number of our staff, the Artizo students, and pastors from other churches in the Vancouver area took part. Those who attended were greatly encouraged and helped by David’s teaching on preaching on the wisdom literature in the Bible. We are blessed indeed to have David preach in our Acts series for us.

Today is also a joyous day for us as a parish family because Keith Ganzer and Aaron Roberts will be ordained as deacons at 3:00 pm today at First Baptist Church (969 Burrard Street). You are all invited to this service in which Bishop Don Harvey will be officiating and Reverend Darrell Johnson will be preaching. Please pray for Aaron and Keith as they commit themselves to full-time ministry in the Anglican church.

Finally, if you have noticed that many women are missing from our services today, you are right; they are attending St. John’s annual women’s retreat in the mountains north of Maple Ridge. This is a happy time where faith is strengthened through the faithful teaching of God’s word and relationships are deepened in their life together. It is exciting to see all that God is doing in women’s ministries at St. John’s, and we pray that the work of the Gospel at St. John’s flourishes through the blessings that come out of this weekend.

Warmly,

Dan Gifford
