Christianity Explored

The Christianity Explored course currently meets on Thursday nights at 7:00 pm in the Church Hall for a wonderful home cooked meal, short presentation and discussion. The course runs for 7 weeks and is designed for those who are curious about Christianity or are new to the Christian faith. Christianity Explored provides a warm, pressure-free environment to explore questions of faith and life. It’s informal, fun and you can choose to be silent or say whatever you want. No question is too hostile or basic and no knowledge of faith is expected!

If you have any questions or wish to register contact Aaron by email or phone at 604.731.4966 ext 22. The course is free, but a small donation is asked to help cover the cost of the awesome food.

Dear Friends,

Last Sunday, 133 of us joined together over a meal to hear about what God is doing in Cambodia and, specifically, Svay Pak, the world renowned area for child sex trafficking. It is hard to imagine and believe that a church is set in the middle of a neighborhood where children are sold by their families, kept drugged and then prostituted. The suffering, the injustice, the awful reality of the depravity is mind boggling, yet God is bringing redemption and light to Svay Pak.

The story of Cambodia and what it has been through in the last 30 years is tragic and yet it is not unique. Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Rwanda, Sudan, Ethiopia, Bosnia, are a few of the other countries that have been through similar catastrophic tragedies. The personal stories that come out of these tragedies are horrific and it is hard to reconcile them with a loving God.

The question of how a loving sovereign God can be a reality in a world that has suffered and continues to suffer, with little hope of relief, is important to ask and answer so that we better understand the Gospel for ourselves and so that we can share it with others. Next week, Aaron Roberts will be looking at how this reality can exist and why it is good news. Pray about who this may be helpful for and who you might invite.

Our youth – Ekklesia (18 to 20 something), Senior High Youth, and CTC (Christian Teens Club, i.e. Junior High) – are away at the All In this weekend on Gambier Island in Howe Sound. Pray that God will minister to each person in a deep and life-changing, life-giving way.

Warmly,

Joanne Lawrie
