Support for Men

Do you struggle with pornography or related issues? Have you tried to overcome this and asked God to help you, but, to your dismay, you keep falling back into it? You don’t need to struggle alone. Two men who have been there are willing to hear your story and walk with you towards hope and freedom. You can contact us by emailing supportformen@sjvan.org. All inquiries will be treated with utmost confidentiality.

Prayer time for the Youth Group

Every Sunday in June, between the services, parents, and others with a heart to pray for the youth of this parish, are meeting in room 200 between services (around 10:30 to 10:55) to pray for the youth and youth ministry.  Feel free to join us.

Legal Update

Last week, Geoff Cowper, our counsel from Fasken Martineau, came after the 11:00 am service to update us on the appeal of our court case. The hearing is scheduled for 4 days starting Sep 13 before a panel of three judges of the BC Court of Appeal. We will not know who the judges will be until very close to that date. The hearing will be public and we are welcome to attend. Typically the court renders judgment about 60 days after the hearing, though this can vary.
Please continue to pray for our faithful legal team, and in particular, Geoff Cowper and Stanley Martin, as they prepare. They have been a gift from God and continue to be diligent in their preparation and work on our behalf.
We are thankful to God for the giving to date to our Legal Fund. There is approximately $70,000 still needed for us to meet all our anticipated commitments this year. Please prayerfully consider your participation in this; our Trustees’ constantly pray for our unity, humility and submission to God’s will in all this.

Service Time Change

Please note service times change on July 4 (through to September 5) to our summer schedule. Service times will be at 8:00 am, 10:00 am and 6:30 pm.

Parish Family News

Birth
Our very best wishes and congratulations go to Tim and Susan Carter on the birth of their daughter Miriam Evangeline Carter, born June 7.

Welcome Back David Little

In late August, we will welcome back David Little as he takes up the position of Youth Ministry Director. David left St. John’s three and half years ago to take up the Youth Ministry at All Saints Anglican Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. David not only started the Youth Ministry there from a small seed but he also pastured and led it through a time of great change when All Saints joined the Anglican Church in North America and moved church buildings. It will be great to welcome him back.

Good-bye…but not really
At the end of June, Anne Munro, our faithful accountant, will be moving on in her professional capacity, but will remain an active member of St. John’s. Anne has an opportunity to use her skills and experience to serve something very close to her heart; she is leaving us to help her husband in his business. Anne has served St. John’s for over eight years and, from an accounting point of view with the amount of change and growth, it has not been a simple time. She has done a remarkable job at keeping us clean and she will be missed in the office.

Birth to Three
Please welcome Lindsay Sachs who will be helping out in the Birth to Three area over the summer and into the fall. Lindsay is a trained teacher who is passionate about Christ and Kids.

New Verger
Please welcome Ben Roberts who will be our new Verger starting July 1. Ben and Karyn have been part of the Evening Service community for the past couple of years, They have been involved in music ministry and have lead a home group. There will be an addition to their family later this summer.

Community News

“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts 2:42

It is good for us to be in fellowship and eat together; therefore you are all invited to the St. John’s Family BBQ that will be happening on July 11th after the 10:00 am service. This BBQ will be the wrap-up for the Bigger and Better Summer Day Camp, which runs from July 9th to 11th, for kids entering Kindergarten to Grade 6. Registration packages are available today between the 9:00 am and 11:00 am services.

It is also good for us to celebrate with the twenty members of our family (representing a broad age range) that are confirming and re-affirming their baptismal vows today. In the Service of Confirmation and Re-Affirmation they will be publicly declaring their devotion to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship and service of Christ’s church, and their ongoing dependence on Christ. The Service is today at 3pm at Broadmoor Baptist with refreshments afterwards. You will find directions to Broadmoor on the next page.

In Christ,
Joanne Lawrie
