Legal Update

Last week, Geoff Cowper, our counsel from Fasken Martineau, came after the 11:00 am service to update us on the appeal of our court case. The hearing is scheduled for 4 days starting Sep 13 before a panel of three judges of the BC Court of Appeal. We will not know who the judges will be until very close to that date. The hearing will be public and we are welcome to attend. Typically the court renders judgment about 60 days after the hearing, though this can vary.
Please continue to pray for our faithful legal team, and in particular, Geoff Cowper and Stanley Martin, as they prepare. They have been a gift from God and continue to be diligent in their preparation and work on our behalf.
We are thankful to God for the giving to date to our Legal Fund. There is approximately $70,000 still needed for us to meet all our anticipated commitments this year. Please prayerfully consider your participation in this; our Trustees’ constantly pray for our unity, humility and submission to God’s will in all this.

A Big Thank You From Living Waters
The Living Waters Book Sale held last Saturday at 10th Avenue Alliance Church was a success. It would not have been so without the significant help this church family gave. To everyone who gave books, helped sort and sell the books, or came out and bought books, we want to say how much we appreciate your support. You are helping to make a difference in the lives of many Christians in need of relational healing.

Give thanks to the God of heaven.
His love endures forever.

Today marks the 26th Sunday of the year; we are half way through the year and have mounting expectations of lazy summer days. Although the weather has not felt much like summer, there are indicators that summer is upon us here. Kids are out of school, teachers are ready for a good rest, and rumours of going to the cabin or on a vacation are about. Next week, July 4, we start our summer services, which means that the morning services change to 8 am for Holy Communion every Sunday throughout the summer and 10 am for Holy Communion on July 4 and 18 and Morning Prayer on July 11 and 25. Sunday school will continue through July. For the month of August and September 5, we will have 10 am Family services (with Communion on August 15 and September 5). God gives us summer and lazier days to rest and relax and enjoy what he has given us. It is an opportunity to reflect on how God is good in all seasons of the year and of life and to rest in the knowledge that his love endures forever.

As Dan announced a couple of weeks ago, our beloved Edie Rittinger will be taking the summer off and returning to us in mid September. Edie’s break has provided an opportunity for Rev. James Wagner to help St. John’s in the area of pastoral care, as well as in some preaching and service-leading. James served as assistant minister at St. Matthew’s, Abbotsford and planted Holy Cross Anglican Church, Abbotsford. In the past year, his family has relocated to Ladner and he has spent the year focussed on settling his family and helping out at St. Andrew’s ANiC Project in Ladner. James is an experienced, wise minister with a great passion and gift for pastoral care. Please welcome him during the summer.

In Christ,
Joanne Lawrie
