St. John’s Family BBQ - TODAY!

Please stay after the 10 am service for a family BBQ in the courtyard. There will be games, good food and the World Cup game playing on a big screen in the gym. The cost is $5 for individuals and $10 for a family. This should be a great time of fellowship and fun. See you there!

Missions Update

This spring several young adults from St. John’s went on mission trips. On Wednesday, July 21 at 8:00 pm you are invited to hear Nick, Olivia and Jamie talk about their time in India, and Sophia speak about her sojourn in Uganda. Refreshments will be served.

Legal update:

On Tues, Jun 9, Justice Kelleher ruled that the plantiffs, St. John’s, Good Shepherd, St. Matthews, and St. Mathias & St. Luke trustees, should bear the majority of costs of trial and that the Dioceses of New Westminster should be able to hold a Sunday worship service at St. Matthews Abbotsford. Both these items will be added to the appeal argument.
This is disappointing news. The trustees with our legal counsel will determine what potential impact this may have and will communicate to you if there are any changes. Our legal counsel was prepared for this, with regards to the Appeal process but the trustees are determining if this changes the anticipated total cost. If there are any changes we will let you know as soon as we can.
In this process, we rely on God, knowing he is faithful and just and that his purposes will be fulfilled. Please continue to pray that he would grant us patience and perserverance in this process.

2011 Giving Envelopes

If you give financially more than once a year to St. John’s we recommend that you have an assigned giving code and a set of boxed giving envelopes. Assigned giving codes help us to keep better track of your giving and helps ensure that you receive an accurate tax receipt at the end of the year. In July we will be ordering giving envelopes for the year 2011. If you do not have an assigned giving code, and want one, please contact Krista Friebel by email or phone at 604.731.4966 ext 19 for more information.

Condolences

The funeral service for Henry Cheng, Pauline Hale’s father, will be held here on July 15 at 2:00 pm. Henry was at the final stage of dementia, and had a brief struggle with pneumonia and went to be with the Lord Jesus just prior to his 95th birthday. Please pray for Pauline Hale’s relatives many of whom are unbelievers. Pray that they will be able to attend the funeral, and that God will open their hearts to His comfort and grace. Please also pray that Pauline will find peace.

BIGGER & BETTER

Today, the FIFA World Cup Final will be the biggest thing going on in a number of households across the world. Even if you are Spanish or Dutch the reality is that there is something Bigger and Better.

The past few days, the Children attending the summer camp spent time exploring the fact that God is bigger and better than anything they can fully understand. He is bigger than the world and the universe because he made it. He is better because he loves us more than we can imagine and because He loves it so much He is fulfilling His plan to save it.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:16-17

Today, please come and celebrate at our parish family picnic after the 10 am service in the courtyard between the church and hall. There will be food, family games, and if you need to, you can check out the FIFA World Cup game in the gym.
