This passage gives us three aspects of salvation (the power of God at work in us): vs. 1-3 are about salvation from death, vs. 4-6 salvation into life, and v.7 salvation with purpose. We do not die because we sin, we sin because we are already dead, and sin is less a question of what we do than what we don't do. We simply fail to live up to the glory of God. We say we want to do what we want, but we never ask what is dictating what we want. If we want what the world has to offer, we are letting the world dictate what we want. But 'we' are not the point. But God made us alive, raised us up, and seated us with Christ: that is God's business. We are there so that God can make us the centrepiece – so that God can show off his handiwork in us – so that God can be glorified. Every aspect of our lives are meant to reflect who God is. God offers us power to live a different life, to order our passions and desires. Let Him be our reality.
