Valentine's Day: Through a glass darkly: FILM, FAITH and LOVE
As Television has become less substantive over the years, film has become the place where culture goes to deal with the weighty issues of life. The movie theatre is the market place for ideas, the dominant cultural narrative for defining who we are. When defining ‘love’, film often does really well, or horribly. Yet even when it does it well, it tends to go only so far. On Valentines Day, Sunday Feb 14 at St. John’s, the sermon will grapple with a passage of scripture and reflect on several films in order to try to understand ‘love’.
When:
Feb 14, 2010 at the 9:00 am and 11:00 am services
What to expect:
Like most church services, there will be singing, a sermon (short) and prayers, but because we anticipate a number of guests, these will be made a bit more ‘user friendly’ for new comers.
Speaker:
Aaron Roberts, the hilarious guy at St. John's
