Who we are:

statements of belief

"Holy Scripture containeth all things necessary to salvation; so that whatsoever is not read therein, nor may be proved thereby, is not to be required of any man, that it should be believed as an article of the Faith or be thought requisite or necessary to salvation." Article 6, Anglican Articles of Religion.

God’s word defines what St. John’s believes and so we as a community of believers seek to consistently be humble before God and His word. The place of the Bible in our faith is well defined in Article 6 of the Anglican Articles of Religion, quoted above.

Therefore we, along with Anglicans around the world, affirm our belief in historic Christianity as revealed in the Bible and summarized in three creeds: The Apostle’s, Nicene and Athanasian Creeds. We include them in this section along with the 39 Articles of Religion from the Book of Common Prayer which express the central beliefs of the Anglican Communion. Finally, as a rule of life, we endorse the Montreal Declaration of Anglican Essentials (1994) which we also include here.

These statements contain concepts which are, in effect, concise summaries of Christian belief. But because they are summaries they may require further explanation, and some of them use terms and phrases which are no longer in common use (for example, the 39 Articles were written in 1562, and the Nicene Creed in 381). If you do not understand the language used, or the concepts of belief that these statements express, or if they seem at odds with what you believe, then we encourage you to contact us.
