St. John’s children's ministry aims to support and equip families in raising our children as disciples of Christ.
In our Sunday schools, children meet with others in their age-group so as to foster their relationships with one another, as well as with their teaching team. The children are lead in activities to strengthen their relationships with God, with one another, and with their teachers. Together we study God's word in ways which engage the imaginations of the children whilst stretching their minds.
There are classes during both Sunday morning services for children up to grade 5, with a special class for grade 6 at the 11 am service to prepare them to move into the youth group in the spring.
Adults who are interested in teaching children and ministering to them week to week are encouraged to consider joining this growing ministry.
Responsibilities include preparing lessons, teaching a small group, and leading the group in singing. Teachers learn the long term approach, integrating different learning methods and engaging imaginations, moving the child from knowing to comprehension. They pray with the children and for the children - this is central in our work. Conversations grow out of teaching and the relationship grows.
Sunday school teachers are provided with evening training sessions, one-on-one modeling and mentoring.
We hold a number of children's events during the year, including Artsfest to raise money for a children's mission in Costa Rica, Family Services on Good Friday and Christmas Eve, monthly games and stories nights for children in grades 3 to 5, and an Adventure Bible Camp in the summer for children in Kindergarten through grade 6.
If you love teaching and love children, and wish to learn more about this great and wonderful responsibility, we would love to hear from you.
