Who we are:

St John's Shaughnessy Anglican Church, Vancouver is a community of Christians dedicated to the exposition and teaching of the Word of God, to the spreading of the good news of the Gospel at home and abroad, and to the application of God's purpose in our own lives and families.

volunteer > serving

Behind the scenes, the smooth functioning of our services and events are due to a large number of "logistical" ministries that need regular volunteer help.

Audiovisual and technical

We have a great need for skilled and knowledgeable people in managing our sound systems, audio recordings, filming, and presentation equipment. And as we attempt to reach a wider audience with new media, a wide range of technically proficient geeks are required.

Cooking for a group

Throughout the year, different ministries require a meal prepared for a group, either as an ongoing need or single event. This is your opportunity to use the vast kitchen at the church.

Kitchen help

If you can’t cook, you might want to help out anyway. It takes a lot of prep work and clean-up to feed a three-course meal to 150 people. But we’ll let you use the professional dishwasher.

Sanctuary Guild

This group is responsible for the linens, silver and supplies for serving communion. This is a ministry that is absolutely essential to the beauty and order of our worship services, and one that requires a servant heart. Open to women and men, this group meets on Friday mornings to wash and iron linens, clean vessels and chalices, polish silver, purchase supplies and prepare for the Sunday services. There are currently four teams who are always open to new members. Each team is on duty once per month. If you are interested in serving in this way, please contact Edie Rittinger for more information: 604.731.4966 ext 24.

Event help

Throughout the year there are a number of events at the church that require different kinds of help – set-up, clean-up, registration/sign-in, and many other organizing tasks. If you enjoy the smooth running of our events, maybe you’d like to help keep them that way by volunteering.

Bible reading

Not so much behind the scenes, but right out front! The word of God has much power and the Bible is meant to be read aloud. Audibly experiencing the word of God is an essential part of our worship services, and audibly delivering it to the congregation can be a special blessing.
