Tech Not Neutral: Master or Servant?
TUESDAYS, FEB 26, MAR 5, MAR 12 // 7:30-9:00 PM
ST. JOHN’S VANCOUVER, 5350 BAILLIE STREET
How many times have you pulled out your phone in the last week and wondered if it was making you more or less human? Have you asked yourself the same question about your coffee maker? These are technological advances that help us function on a daily basis, but we don't always question technology's impact on our humanity.
For three weeks we would like to come together and discuss technology with the help of Craig Gay. He recently published a book on this topic - "Modern Technology and the Human Future: A Christian Appraisal" and the back cover asks: “From the plow to the printing press, technology has always shaped human life and informed our understanding of what it means to be human. And advances in modern technology, from computers to smartphones, have yielded tremendous benefits. But do these developments actually encourage human flourishing?”
Join us for Tech Not Neutral, where Craig will address the following topics and lead us into discussion.
Session 1: Our typically modern (largely mechanical) way of looking at things and why this is a problem
Session 2: A biblical theology of creation and what this means for thinking about technology
Session 3: A biblical theology of human vocation within created order and what this means for thinking and using our technologies
