“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
Genesis 1:1
We create because God created first. At St. John’s, our Music and Production ministries are central in driving our creative output!
Music Ministry
The music ministry leads us in musical worship at all of our services. From band-led music, to orchestral arrangements, to choral music — we aim to worship the Lord in every way we can.
-
The Choir of St John's Vancouver sings weekly at our 10 a.m. morning service and rehearses weekly on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm.
They also rehearse occasionally on other days to prepare for special services such as Remembrance Day, Nine Lessons and Carols, and other Christmas services. The choir consists of those who desire to serve in choral worship leading and have some experience with music-reading.
While our organist generally plays our hymns, at times we welcome other musicians to assist in the leading of congregational singing.
-
Our Children's Choir is an important part of our music ministry and sings at special times such as Christmas and Easter, though they may participate in other services throughout the year.
They rehearse with our Director of Music following the 10am service on Sunday mornings and parents of children interested in singing are encouraged.
-
These musicians, led by our evening service music director, is a committed group of talented volunteers who desire to serve in lead musical worship in a contemporary band.
Made up of a wide range of singers and instrumentalists of varying ages, these committed musicians meet on Sunday afternoons to rehearse for the Sunday evening service.
-
Throughout the year our church commemorates and celebrates special occasions and holidays with extra-musical activities.
In the fall we form a church +community choir for a unique Remembrance Day service that alternates choral music with letters from WWI/WWII soldiers and their families.
During the Christmas season, we mark the season with a band-led Nothing but the Hits service and a choir-led Christmas Cantata and Carols featuring selections from Handel's Messiah.
In February, we form a Ceilidh band and hire a caller to take a full house through a night of fun and dancing. There are many ways to celebrate the blessings that God has given us through the music of these distinctive events.
-
Periodically, we are able to record and document the music that comes from our community.
God with Us (Live): You can hear live recordings from our 2023 Nothin’ but the Hits Advent service! Listen on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
Come and worship with us at one of our upcoming services!

SJV Prod is responsible for any audio-visual need at midweek events, such as worship nights, funerals, and workshops.
We also take care of audio-visual needs at weekend retreats, which can be a large undertaking.
We’re always looking for more help from people with flexible hours to who are interested in audio to run these events.
If you are interested in helping out, please contact Merial Bull, Director of Communications & Production.

We’re big on team building at SJV Prod.
Every year, we host a big vision & training event in the Spring, as well as a team appreciation barbecue in the Summer.
Whenever there is time and capacity, we connect our members to workshops and conferences that can stoke their creative fire or hone their skill in music production.
If you have gifts and talents that you can impart to us in the form of training (e.g. running a workshop), please reach out to Merial Bull, Director of Communications & Production.
